St. Joseph Central (Pittsfield, Mass.) kept up a steady attack all game long to upset
Hoosac Valley (Cheshire, Mass.), 28-0, on Saturday.
The Crusaders were up 16-0 at the half after taking the lead on a
Jon Bianchi touchdown pass to
Zack Neary in the first quarter.
St. Joseph Central expanded its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. SJC scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Bianchi.
The final score was a stunner, as the Pittsfield school was ranked No. 118 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Massachusetts, far below the Hurricanes' spot at No. 59.
The Crusaders' standout player in the win was Bianchi. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Hoosac Valley took, 28-0.
The win was a nice bounce back for St. Joseph Central, which lost to Wahconah Regional last week, 14-6. The loss comes after Hoosac Valley defeated Lee/Lenox Memorial 29-0 last week.
Hoosac Valley (1-1) goes up against Monument Mountain/Mt. Everett in a Berkshires game matchup next week, while St. Joseph Central (1-1) locks horns with Easthampton/Hampshire in a non-conference game.
