Baseball Game Preview: Deerfield Demons vs. Parkview Vikings

For the second straight game, Deerfield will face off against Parkview. The Demons will be playing at home against the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Deerfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Deerfield gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Parkview 12-3. That looming 12-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Demons yet this season.

Landon Brattlie made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 16 over 5.2 innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Deerfield let Aiden Brown and Declan Pohlman run wild. Brown scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Pohlman scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Pohlman a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Bryce Eickhoff, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Deerfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Parkview only managed three hits.

Deerfield pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Parkview, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
