Football Recap: Glenelg Gladiators vs. Atholton Raiders
After flying high against Long Reach last Friday, Glenelg came back down to earth. The Gladiators fell 40-28 to the Atholton Raiders on Thursday. The Gladiators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

Glenelg's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jailen Johnson, who rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown, and Matthew Keane, who picked up 36 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Johnson's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Kyndell Owens, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Tyler Bell produced another solid effort throwing for 303 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.2 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 68 yards and one score on only six carries for Atholton. That's the most passing yards Bell has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Darin Smith, who rushed for 83 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Glenelg has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. As for Atholton, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
Coming up, Glenelg will take on Wilde Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Atholton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
