Baseball Game Preview: Rio Rico Hawks vs. Salpointe Catholic Lancers

The Rio Rico Hawks will venture away from home to challenge the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rio Rico is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Rio Rico fell victim to Sunnyside and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 8-0 to the Blue Devils. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Salpointe Catholic came out on top against Mica Mountain on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fourth inning. The Lancers never let the Thunderbolts get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. Considering the Lancers have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Anthony Milo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colton Raetzman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Salpointe Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Salpointe Catholic's record is now 19-3-1. As for Rio Rico, they now have a losing record of 12-13.

Rio Rico might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Salpointe Catholic in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
