Baseball Recap: Albertus Magnus Has No Trouble Against Irvington

Albertus Magnus won the last time they faced Irvington and things went their way on Saturday too. The Falcons put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Matthew Nevin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Wein, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Albertus Magnus is undefeated when Wein posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

Albertus Magnus is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Irvington, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Coming up, Albertus Magnus will be playing in front of their home fans against Pearl River at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Irvington will be paying especially close attention to the Falcons' game: after the Falcons face off against the Pirates, they'll take on Irvington again at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
