MaxPreps girls soccer state playoffs update

Alabama, Georgia, Nebraska and Oklahoma have crowned champions thus far.

The quest for state titles is over in some states, while others are still almost a month away from crowning champs. Check out below to see how each spring soccer state is doing when it comes to girls soccer.

ALABAMA (Brackets)
State titles have been awarded in Alabama.
     — 6A: Spain Park (Hoover) whacked Daphne by a 5-0 score on Saturday.
     — 5A: Spanish Fort (Spanish Fort, Ala.) got the best of Chelsea in a 6-3 victory on Saturday.
     — 1A-4A: Montgomery Academy edged Guntersville by a 2-1 count on Saturday.

ALASKA
The state tournament begins Thursday, May 26 in the Anchorage area.

ARKANSAS (Brackets)
The finals are set in the Natural State and will be contested Friday and Saturday at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
     — 7A: Conway will battle Bentonville at 6 p.m. Saturday. The game was slated for 2 p.m. but was changed to allow Conway players to attend their graduation ceremonies.
     — 6A: Russellville takes on Mountain Home at 10 a.m. Russellville was the No. 5 seed from the East and Mountain Home is the No. 2 from the East.
     — 5A: Little Rock Christian Academy has outscored its three opponents 19-0. Harrison has done the exact same. They play Friday at 6 p.m.
     — 4A: Pulaski Academy (Little Rock) faces Valley View (Jonesboro) at 2 p.m. on Friday. Pulaski Academy needed two overtimes to get past Shiloh Christian in the semifinals. Valley View pulled out a tight 2-1 win over Episcopal Academy to advance.



CALIFORNIA
California does not have a state title. Soccer is up to each individual section, so some play winter soccer instead of spring and some sections crown winter and spring champions. A section title is the most a team can achieve in California spring soccer.
     SAC-JOAQUIN SECTION (Brackets): All divisions with the exception of VII will have semifinals today and finals Saturday.
          — DIVISION I: A pair of Xcellent 25 National Girls Soccer Rankings teams are still alive. No. 15 Davis hosts Pitman (Turlock) and No. 17 St. Mary's (Stockton) will welcome St. Francis (Sacramento).
          — DIVISION II: Kennedy (Sacramento) goes to Rocklin and Granite Bay travels to Bella Vista (Fair Oaks).
          — DIVISION III: No. 16 Rio Americano (Sacramento) and Benicia look to meet in the final for the third straight year. The Raiders of Rio host Rodriguez (Fairfield) and Benicia will play Whitney (Rocklin).
          — DIVISION IV: Sierra (Manteca) will go to Vista del Lago (Folsom) and Oakdale welcomes Central Catholic (Modesto).
          — DIVISION V: West Campus (Sacramento) hosts Summerville (Tuolumne) in one semi, the other is Calaveras (San Andreas) hosting Hughson.
          — DIVISION VI: Bradshaw Christian (Sacramento) will play Forest Lake Christian (Auburn) in one semifinal, and in the other it's Mariposa County vs. Vacaville Christian.
          — DIVISION VII: Faith Christian (Yuba City) will battle Millennium (Tracy) in Saturday's final at a TBA site. Each team was a league champ.

     NORTHERN SECTION: Chico and Foothill (Palo Cedro) will play for the Eastern Athletic League Cup today at 4 p.m. The EAL Cup is the final for Northern Section spring soccer. (Story)

     NORTH COAST SECTION (Bracket): Similar to the Northern Section, only some of the section's teams do spring soccer. Fourteen teams are in the bracket and games began today. Quarterfinals are Friday and Saturday, semis are Wednesday and the finals will be a week from Friday or Saturday. (Brackets)

     — SAN FRANCISCO SECTION: Lowell (San Francisco) beat Lincoln (San Francisco) for the City title.

COLORADO (Brackets)
The quarterfinals are almost over in the Centennial State. Semifinals are Saturday and the finals are Wednesday, May 25, except for 3A, which is Tuesday.
     — 5A: Mountain Vista (Highlands Ranch) plays Pine Creek (Colorado Springs) Saturday in a semifinal at Englewood High (11 a.m.). It's Arapahoe (Littleton) against today's winner between Dakota Ridge and Fairview in the other semi. The final is Wednesday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 7:30 p.m.
     — 4A: Palmer Ridge (Monument) will battle Wheat Ridge (Wheat Ridge) in a semifinal Saturday, and it's Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch) against Green Mountain (Lakewood) in the other. The final is Wednesday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 5 p.m.
     — 3A: Quarterfinals are today: Holy Family (Broomfield) vs. Manitou Springs, St. Mary's (Colorado Springs) vs. Peak to Peak (Lafayette), The Classical Academy (Colorado Springs) vs. Kent Denver (Englewood) and Faith Christian (Arvada) vs. St. Mary's Academy (Englewood). Semifinals are Saturday and the finals are Tuesday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 7 p.m.

DELAWARE
The state playoffs have not yet begun in Delaware.



GEORGIA (Brackets)
State titles have been awarded in the Peach State.
     — CLASS AAAAA: Harrison (Kennesaw) bested North Gwinnett (Suwanee) 1-0 in the title match.
     — CLASS AAAA: McIntosh (Peachtree City) and Whitewater (Fayetteville) went to penalty kicks after a 1-1 deadlock. McIntosh came out on top, 6-5 in PKs.
     — CLASS AAA: St. Pius X Catholic (Atlanta) dominated with a 4-0 victory over Woodward Academy (College Park).
     — CLASS AA: Blessed Trinity (Roswell) came out on top of a 1-0 score against Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross).
     — CLASS A: First Presbyterian Day (Macon) edged Paideia (Atlanta) 3-2 for the state crown.

ILLINOIS (Brackets)
Regional finals are close to set in Illinois. The Sweet Sixteen begins Friday, May 27.

IOWA (Brackets)
Brackets are set for the substate tournaments in Iowa. First-round games in all three classes (3A, 2A and 1A) are Monday, semifinals are Wednesday and the substate finals are Saturday, May 28. Then the state tournament comes after that.

KANSAS (Brackets)
Regional tournaments will be wrapped up by today in Kansas, and the state quarterfinals are scheduled for Tuesday. Semifinals and state title matches are next Friday and Saturday.

MICHIGAN
Regional semifinals are June 7, so Michigan has a long way before state titles will be distributed.

MISSOURI (Brackets)
The state tournament begins Tuesday in Missouri, and will include all 16 district champions in each class (3A, 2A and 1A). Some district titles have already been secured. The quarterfinals are Saturday, May 28. Semifinals are Friday, June 3 and the finals are Saturday, June 4.

NEBRASKA (Brackets)
State titles have been awarded in Nebraska, and both required overtime.
     — CLASS A: Millard North (Omaha) won the title with a 2-1 triumph in overtime against Lincoln Southeast.
     — CLASS B: Skutt Catholic (Omaha) bested Gretna 2-1 in overtime as well.

NORTH CAROLINA (Brackets)
The Tar Heel State will crown state champs soon.
     — 4A WEST: East Forsyth (Kernersville) and Ardrey Kell (Charlotte) face off in a sectional final Saturday, as do Lake Norman (Mooresville) and Hough [William A.] (Cornelius). The regional final is Wednesday, May 25.
     — 4A EAST: Hoggard (Wilmington) faces New Bern in a sectional final Saturday, as do Leesville Road (Raleigh) and East Chapel Hill. The regional final is Wednesday, May 25.
     — 3A WEST: Marvin Ridge (Waxhaw) will play Charlotte Catholic in a sectional final Saturday, as do crosstown rivals Hickory and St. Stephens (Hickory). The regional final is Wednesday, May 25.
     — 3A EAST: Jacksonville will play White Oak (Jacksonville) in a sectional final Saturday, another crosstown sectional final battle. The same goes for Chapel Hill and Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh). The regional final is Wednesday, May 25.
     — 2A WEST: West Stokes (King) will play either Cuthbertson or East Lincoln in a sectional final Saturday, as do Forbush (East Bend) and Shelby. The regional final is Wednesday, May 25.
    — 2A EAST: Swansboro will play Croatan (Newport) in a sectional final Saturday, as do Northwood (Pittsboro) and Carrboro (Chapel Hill). The regional final is Wednesday, May 25.
     — 1A: Southwest Onslow (Jacksonville) plays North Carolina School of Science & Math (Durham) in a regional final and Avery County (Newland) battles Central Academy (Monroe) in the other, both on Saturday.



NORTH DAKOTA
The North Dakota state tournament will be in Minot, June 2-4. Eight teams qualify, four from each region.

OKLAHOMA (Brackets)
State titles have been awarded in Oklahoma.
     — 6A: Edmond North (Edmond) beat Union (Tulsa) by a 3-2 score.
     — 5A: Bishop Kelley (Tulsa) bested Deer Creek (Edmond), 1-0.
     — 4A: Verdigris (Claremore) topped Catoosa (Catoosa) 2-0 for the title.

PENNSYLVANIA
The first round of the PIAA spring soccer playoffs begins Wednesday, June 1.

SOUTH CAROLINA (Brackets)
It's down to the finals in the Palmetto State, which will be played at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
     — SCHSL CLASS AAAA: Mauldin (Mauldin) will face Wando (Mt. Pleasant) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
     — SCHSL CLASS AAA: Fort Mill (Fort Mill) plays Hilton Head (Hilton Head Island) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
     — SCHSL CLASS AA: Christ Church Episcopal (Greenville) battles Academic Magnet (North Charleston) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Independent schools also have their championships already decided.
     — SCISA CLASS AAA: Cardinal Newman (Columbia) topped Pinewood Prep (Summerville) by a 2-1 score.
     — SCISA CLASS AA-A: Low Country Prep (Pawleys Island) won 3-1 over Beaufort Academy (Beaufort). (Story)

VIRGINIA
Region champs and runners-up form the state championship brackets in Virginia. Play begins June 7 for the state tourney.



WISCONSIN
Sectional winners all enter the state tournament in Wisconsin. Play begins Thursday, June 16, and Friday, June 17.

WYOMING (Brackets)
The state tournament begins today in Sheridan.
     — 4A: Today, it's Campbell County (Gillette) vs. Rock Springs, Green River vs. Central (Cheyenne), Laramie vs. Riverton and Natrona County (Casper) vs. East (Cheyenne).
     — 3A: Today, it's Cody vs. Pinedale, Torrington vs. Lander Valley (Lander), Buffalo vs. Powell, Jackson Hole (Jackson) vs. Worland. The eight-team bracket progresses each day until Saturday's final.
