Softball Game Preview: Nipomo Titans vs. Orcutt Academy Spartans

The Nipomo Titans will venture away from home to take on the Orcutt Academy Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Nipomo has four straight wins, Orcutt Academy has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Nipomo gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on San Luis Obispo with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Ava Camacho made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Nipomo let Alie Camacho and Vivianne Goss run wild. Camacho scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Goss went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits Camacho has posted since back in May of 2024. Roxanne McLean also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Nipomo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Orcutt Academy came up short against Paso Robles on Tuesday, falling 13-4. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly nine runs.

The win got Nipomo back to even at 5-5. As for Orcutt Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Nipomo suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Orcutt Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
