Recap: South Davidson Wildcats vs. Lexington Yellowjackets

The South Davidson Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight defeat. They took a hard 78-59 fall against Lexington. While losing is never fun, South Davidson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 525th, while Lexington is ranked 243rd).

When it comes to explaining why South Davidson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Peyton Davis. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with three steals. Davis hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Stetson Cook, who scored nine points.

Lexington found their leader in underclassman Andre Gyabaah, who scored 18 points. Valliance Luketa was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.

South Davidson has not been sharp recently as the team has lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for Lexington, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.

South Davidson will look to defend their home court on Friday against Salisbury at 7:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for South Davidson: they have been struggling with seven straight losses at home, while Salisbury has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road. As for Lexington, they will square off against West Davidson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lexington knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully West Davidson likes a good challenge.
