Basketball Recap: Melrose Takes a Loss

Melrose lost against West Central Area back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Melrose Dutchmen were dealt a 70-34 loss at the hands of the West Central Area Knights. While losing is never fun, the Dutchmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while the Knights are ranked 70th).

Melrose has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for West Central Area, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Melrose will head out to square off against Osakis at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Central Area, they will take on Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Central Area knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta likes a good challenge.
