Basketball Game Preview: Cigarroa Toros vs. Nixon Mustangs

Cigarroa is 0-10 against Nixon since January of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cigarroa Toros will be playing in front of their home fans against the Nixon Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Cigarroa is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They strolled past Juarez-Lincoln with points to spare last Friday, taking the game 81-65. The victory was some much needed relief for the Toros as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Nixon waltzed into their contest on Friday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They claimed a resounding 92-36 win over the Patriots. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while the Patriots are ranked 1211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nixon is also on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.3 points per game. As for Cigarroa, their victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-14.

Cigarroa was dealt a bruising 97-55 defeat at the hands of Nixon in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Nixon's Mason Vela, who went 12 for 15 en route to 26 points in addition to seven assists and six steals.
