The Kennedy Crusaders will venture away from home to face off against the Saint Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Kennedy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.1 runs per game this season.
Kennedy is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Jones just ended the team's 12-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 5-3.
Ariel Huerta made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, Saint Ignatius College Prep hadn't done well against Resurrection recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wolfpack blew past the Bandits 21-1. The result was nothing new for the Wolfpack, who have now won 13 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Zoe Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Samantha Chiesa was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Morgan Rothgery, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Saint Ignatius College Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Saint Ignatius College Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-4.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kennedy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .536. However, it's not like Saint Ignatius College Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
