Recap: Wekiva Mustangs vs. Dr. Phillips Panthers
It was a good run, but the Wekiva Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 62-29 loss at the hands of Dr. Phillips. While losing is never fun, Wekiva can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while Dr. Phillips is ranked eighth).
Wekiva's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jasmine Pooler, who scored 11 points. Makayla Bell was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Wekiva bumped their record down to 6-4 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Dr. Phillips, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Wekiva won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against West Orange at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th. Hopefully West Orange focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Monday. As for Dr. Phillips, they will head out on the road to face off against St. John-Vianney at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
