Softball Game Preview: Intrinsic Mustangs vs. Schurz Bulldogs

The Intrinsic Mustangs will challenge the Schurz Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Intrinsic's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Schurz has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Last Friday, Intrinsic made easy work of North Grand and carried off a 17-5 win. Fans of the Mustangs have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Schurz). Everything went their way against Disney II on Friday as they made off with a 31-16 victory.

Schurz got a massive performance out of Hailey Wiley, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. Wiley has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Valaria Davis, who scored five runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances.

Schurz always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .857. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Schurz back to even at 2-2. As for Intrinsic, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.

Intrinsic skirted past Schurz 20-19 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
