Basketball Recap: Penasco Drops Highest Score of Season Against Questa

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Penasco). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 69-35 victory over the Questa Wildcats. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-12.

Penasco's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaileb Atencio led the charge by going 10 for 15 on his way to 25 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Atencio is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Romero, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten assists.

Penasco was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Questa's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacovo Cardenas, who posted nine points and three steals. Larry Roybal was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Penasco's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Questa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Penasco wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 56-34 victory against Escalante on the 4th. As for Questa, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-35 defeat against Dulce on the 4th.
