Volleyball Recap: Aurora Greenmen vs. Chardon Hilltoppers
Aurora and Chardon squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Aurora had to settle for second. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chardon Hilltoppers. The Greenmen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hilltoppers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2015.
Aurora actually scored more points across those four sets (91-89), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 12-25, 26-24, 25-18.
Aurora's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Emerson Spiesz, who had 23 digs and four aces, and Dylan Tschudy, who had 14 digs and two aces. Spiesz is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in the last 26 games she's played dating back to last season.
Even though they lost, Aurora was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in seven consecutive games.
Abby Kolcum had a dynamite game for Chardon, getting four digs and a block. Aubrey Fetchik was another key player, getting nine kills and four blocks.
Aurora's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Chardon, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-11 record.
Aurora does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chardon, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against Revere on the 22nd.
