Basketball Recap: Mancos Takes a Loss

If Mancos was riding high fresh off their 47-12 takedown of Ouray last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mancos Bluejays had to suffer through a 77-37 loss at the hands of the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers. The Bluejays were down 66-33 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Taylor Whited was a one-woman wrecking crew for Montezuma-Cortez as she went 17-for-27 on her way to 42 points and four steals. Those 42 points gave Whited a new career-high. Siana Elliott was another key player, going 7-for-11 to rack up 16 points and seven rebounds.

Mancos' defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Montezuma-Cortez, their victory bumped their record up to 5-13.

Mancos wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-38 loss against Ridgway on the 15th. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-39 defeat against Dove Creek on the 14th.
