Volleyball Recap: Phillips Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Phillips and Prentice, and Phillips kept the tradition alive. The Loggers walked away with a 2-0 win over the Buccaneers on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Loggers: when they faced off against the Buccaneers last Tuesday, they had to take a 3-2 loss.

Phillips never let Prentice on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-23.

Annaka Tobias paced Phillips' offense, picking up seven kills. Tobias got some help from Layla Staroba and her 14 assists. Chloe Esterholm controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Several Buccaneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hannah Gladson, who had eight kills and seven digs. Gladson is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had six or more in each of the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Staroba, who had 17 assists and four digs.

Phillips is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-14 record this season. As for Prentice, they moved to 18-8 with that defeat, which also ended their four-match winning streak.

Looking ahead, Phillips will challenge Chequamegon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Prentice, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Rhinelander on the 27th.
