Softball Recap: Martin County Wins Going Away Against Gates County

Martin County has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 3.36 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They blew past the Gates County Red Barons 20-13. Considering the Gators have won 17 matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ty'Hiera Wooten was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with five stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Izzy Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.

Martin County's record now sits at 19-3. As for Gates County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season.

Martin County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 loss against Perquimans on the 2nd. Gates County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
