Softball Recap: Lee Williams Wins Going Away Against Mingus

Lee Williams barely beat Mingus the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Lee Williams blew past Mingus 11-1 on Thursday. The Volunteers have beaten the Marauders the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Marauders has come to flipping the script.

Aivree Austin was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Austin was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sami Marshall, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Alana Garibaldi was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.

Lee Williams was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mingus only posted a batting average of .227.

Lee Williams picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 5-9. As for Mingus, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Lee Williams will challenge rival Coconino at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mingus is set to square off against their familiar foe Flagstaff at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
