Softball Recap: Horizon's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Horizon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Apopka Blue Darters. The win was familiar territory for the Hawks, who have now won five matchups in a row.

Mackenzie Duncan spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Horizon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgyn Welch, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Welch launched this season.

Horizon pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Apopka, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.

Coincidentally, Horizon and Apopka will both be playing Olympia the next time they take the field. The Blue Darters will head out to face the Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Hawks will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
