Softball Game Preview: McDaniel Mountain Lions vs. Lincoln Cardinals

The McDaniel Mountain Lions will take on the Lincoln Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. McDaniel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

McDaniel had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Roosevelt on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions never let the Roughriders get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Mountain Lions, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Amira Edwards made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. Edwards was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Tiffany Jordan was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kaylie Schmitz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

McDaniel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in 11 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Lincoln was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Grant.

McDaniel now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Lincoln, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

McDaniel took their victory against Lincoln in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 10-2 score. Will the Mountain Lions repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
