Basketball Recap: Pine Comes Up Short

Pine lost against South Fork two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Pine Knights received a blow as they fell 55-40 to the South Fork Bulldogs. The game marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Pine saw an underclassman step up: freshman Rob Sawicki went 8 of 17 on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds. Sawicki's afternoon made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Sawicki, who posted ten points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Pine smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Pine's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for South Fork, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.

Pine didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-46 loss against Westwood on the 3rd. As for South Fork, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-19 defeat against Jupiter on the 3rd.
