Preview: Pickens Dragons vs. West Hall Spartans
Pickens is on a four-game streak of home losses, West Hall an eight-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Pickens Dragons will take on the West Hall Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Pickens came up short against Gilmer and fell 35-24.
Pickens' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sam Streicher, who rushed for 16 yards and two touchdowns, and Hayden Jones who picked up 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Jones' longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards.
Meanwhile, West Hall took a serious blow against White County on Friday, falling 38-7. While losing is never fun, West Hall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while White County is ranked 189th).
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Elijiah Hayes and Ryan Fowler. Fowler had a great game and rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Hayes was balling out in the loss, rushing for 112 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Pickens' defeat also dropped their record down to 1-6. West Hall has not been sharp this season, as they've lost six of their first seven contests, which leaves them at a 1-6 record this season.
Pickens took their victory against West Hall when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 29-7. Will Pickens repeat their success, or does West Hall have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
