Softball Recap: Bristol Eastern Takes a Loss

Glastonbury hit Bristol Eastern with a five-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lancers took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Guardians. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lancers of the 2-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

Emily Valentine made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Maria Albert, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Bristol Eastern and nudges their season record down to 7-2. As for Glastonbury, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bristol Eastern will head out to challenge Farmington at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The River Hawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.13 runs per game on average), something the Lancers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Glastonbury, they will venture away from home to face off against East Hartford at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Guardians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season.
