Volleyball Recap: Santa Barbara Starts Season with Loss at Home

Santa Barbara unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Saugus Centurions on Tuesday. The Dons haven't had much luck with the Centurions recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 24-26, 25-14, 25-17.

When it comes to explaining why Santa Barbara lost, don't look at Paylin Marcillac. Despite the final result, she had 14 digs and four aces. Marcillac has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last three times she's played.

Saugus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emily Tran, who had ten digs and four aces. Bailey Posey was another key player, getting 18 assists and seven digs.

Coming up, Santa Barbara will venture away from home to square off against Mayfield at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Saugus, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Highland at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
