Basketball Recap: Maia Berdebes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ida Baker over Estero

Ida Baker was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 60-47 to the Estero Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Wildcats are ranked 187th).

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maia Berdebes, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Berdebes has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emilee Plummer, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Ida Baker was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Estero only posted two assists.

Leading Estero to victory were Amiya Lewis and Callie Hall. Lewis went 10 of 22 on her way to 22 points and seven rebounds, while Hall went 7 of 11 on her way to 14 points and seven boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Lewis has scored at least a third of Estero's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Vaill, who put up nine points.

Ida Baker's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Estero, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Ida Baker will face off against Cape Coral at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Estero, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-11 victory against Mariner on the 8th.
