Basketball Recap: Madison Comes Up Short

Madison lost against Smoky Mountain last Saturday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Patriots fell 72-68 to the Mustangs. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Madison still got an impressive performance from Gavin Gault, who shot 53% from the field to rack up 24 points and three steals. Gault's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Buck Robinson, who posted seven points and five boards.

Custer Prenger produced another solid performance dropping a double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds for Smoky Mountain. That's the most points Prenger has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ben Brown, who went 6-for-9 on his way to 16 points and seven boards.

Madison's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Smoky Mountain, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Madison will head out on the road to face off against Patton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Smoky Mountain, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-49 victory against Andrews on the 1st.
