Softball Recap: Carmel's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Carmel dropped their record down to 11-3 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 10-0 to the Stevenson Patriots. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Corsairs were not able to get on the board.

As for Stevenson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For Stevenson's part, Ava Potempa tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Potempa has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Aubrey Jepson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Jepson is crushing it when it comes to RBI: she's brought in at least three every time she's taken the field this season. Alyssa Shimanski also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Coming up, Carmel will be playing in front of their home fans against Marist at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Stevenson, they will square off against Lake Zurich at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
