Softball Recap: Merryville Drops Highest Score of Season Against Oberlin

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Merryville). They blew past the Oberlin Tigers 25-7 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Brooklyn Steward made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She also put up a walk, which was her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Merryville let Jolee Harrell and Leighlah Pruitt run wild. Harrell scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Pruitt went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. What's more, Harrell posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Camille Davis, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Merryville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

With the win, Merryville broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-11. As for Oberlin, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Merryville Panthers take on Basile Bearcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Oberlin, they will face off against Elton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
