Baseball Game Preview: Humboldt Wildcats vs. Spencer Tigers

The Humboldt Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Spencer Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Humboldt will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Humboldt had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Storm Lake on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Tornadoes. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 12 games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Spencer was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They fell just short of Sergeant Bluff-Luton by a score of 2-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.

Humboldt pushed their record up to 24-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Spencer, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season.

Humboldt beat Spencer 9-6 in their previous meeting back in July of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
