Basketball Game Preview: Vasquez Mustangs vs. Serra Cavaliers

The Vasquez Mustangs will square off against the Serra Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Vasquez sitting on 15 straight wins and Serra on five.

Vasquez is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with an 80-71 victory over Oakwood.

Vasquez's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Rowley, who went 8-for-14 to rack up 23 points. Rowley's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Daeron Bankett, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 19 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Vasquez was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They are 24-2 when they've passed the ball that well.

Meanwhile, Serra strolled past Rancho Mirage with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 65-49.

Serra's win came from a few key players that Vasquez will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Drew Carter, who went 7-for-13 en route to 22 points. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Chinemerem Anyikwa, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.

Serra's victory bumped their record up to 19-13. As for Vasquez, their win bumped their record up to 26-5.

Vasquez came up short against Serra in their previous meeting back in January, falling 79-66. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Cavaliers' Darryl Wasson, who had 37 points. Now that the Mustangs know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
