Volleyball Preview: Bolivar Liberators vs. Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish
The Bolivar Liberators will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Bolivar can't be too worried about heading out to take on Springfield Catholic: they just beat Nevada at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Bolivar won by a set and slipped past Nevada 3-2.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Bolivar who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 15-25, 25-17, 25-27, 15-4.
Bolivar can attribute much of their success to Anna Vaughn, who had 12 digs, and Rayna Wilson, who had three digs and 15 assists. Vaughn is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season.
Bolivar was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in September.
Meanwhile, Springfield Catholic sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Clever on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fighting Irish.
Springfield Catholic took Clever into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 19-25, 16-14.
Bolivar's victory bumped their record up to 11-18-1. As for Springfield Catholic, they now have a winning record of 14-13-3.
Bolivar came up short against Springfield Catholic when the teams last played back in September of 2022, falling 2-0. Can Bolivar avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
