Preview: Kennedy Bears vs. Eden Raiders
Kennedy and Eden are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Kennedy Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Eden Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Back in December of 2023, Kennedy had to suffer through a rough 93-54 loss at the hands of Fredonia. Kennedy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-23.
Meanwhile, Eden didn't have too much trouble with Christian Central Academy at home on Friday as they won 70-51. Given Eden's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Christian Central Academy is ranked 788th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eden's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Taesyn Slating, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Mike Weyland, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Weyland has scored all season. Brady Mason was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six assists and three steals.
Kennedy bumped their record down to 0-2 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points per game. As for Eden, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.
Kennedy came up short against Eden when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 76-64. Can Kennedy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
