Baseball Recap: North Arlington Wins Going Away Against Leonia

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cliffside Park, North Arlington was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the Leonia Lions 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Chris Troyano made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Zaldivar, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Danny Higgins, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

North Arlington's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Leonia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.

Coming up, North Arlington will host Park Ridge at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Leonia, they will take on Dumont in a tournament on Saturday.
