Football Recap: Los Gatos Wildcats vs. Clovis Cougars
If Los Gatos was feeling good fresh off their 35-7 takedown of Liberty last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 41-40 to the Clovis Cougars. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (35), the Wildcats still had to take the loss.
Loss or not, Los Gatos got some senior leadership from Callum Schweitzer and Max Thomas. Schweitzer threw for 382 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.2 yards per attempt, while Thomas picked up 274 receiving yards and four scores. Thomas really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 90 yards.
Clovis' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deagan Rose led the charge by throwing for 376 yards and four TDs while completing 74.3% of his passes. Carlos Young was Rose's top target, picking up 122 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Los Gatos' defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-2. As for Clovis, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Los Gatos and Clovis should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Wildcats will take on Burlingame at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (58 vs. 392). The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 914 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Clovis (ranked 48th) will meet Bullard (ranked 198th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
