Basketball Recap: Southwest EC Takes a Loss

Southwest EC lost against Brawley two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Southwest EC Eagles took a 48-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brawley Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1170th, while the Wildcats are ranked 558th).

Despite the loss, Southwest EC still got an impressive performance from Gabriel Gonzales, who went 8-for-16 en route to 22 points and three steals. Gonzales is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bayne Bernal, who posted five points and 13 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Southwest EC and nudges their season record down to 6-20. As for Brawley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.

As of now, neither Southwest EC nor Brawley have any future games scheduled.
