Baseball Recap: Weaver Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Weaver ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wellborn Panthers, sneaking past 4-2. That's more bragging rights for the Bearcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Tucker Michaels was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 8.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Weaver's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tracen Jones, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Weaver has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Wellborn, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-11.

Weaver will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
