The Kennebunk Rams will face off against the Sanford Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kennebunk has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kennebunk's last matchup with Scarborough could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Monday. Meanwhile, Sanford got the win against Windham on Saturday by a conclusive 9-2. Considering the Spartans have won five games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Scott Robitaille Jr was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Robitaille Jr was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other pitching news, Brayden Baron looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Matthew Hebert and Drew Vessels did most of the damage at the plate: Hebert went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Vessels got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Vessels has become a key player for Sanford: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-5 otherwise.
Sanford hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Sanford is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Kennebunk, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Kennebunk has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game.
