Basketball Recap: Berwick Comes Up Short

Berwick has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 28.2 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They were beaten by the Central Catholic Eagles 56-24. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Despite the loss, Berwick saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Azyria Garrison posted six points along with 11 boards and four blocks. Garrison is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last nine games she's played.

Even though they lost, Berwick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Berwick's defeat dropped their record down to 20-10. As for Central Catholic, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 22-7.

Berwick didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-16 victory against Grand Isle on the 11th. Central Catholic has also already played their next match (against Centerville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
