Basketball Recap: Young Americans Christian's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Young Americans Christian waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Covington Academy Bulldogs 56-35. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 21 points or more this season.

Young Americans Christian was led to victory by Damian Crawford and Joshua Poole. Crawford went 6 for 12 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Poole dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. Crawford has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Fox, who posted four points and five rebounds.

Young Americans Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Brenton Smith and Peyton Sweat certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Smith had eight points, while Sweat put up eight points. Marquis Gilstrap was another key player, putting up five points.

Young Americans Christian's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Covington Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Young Americans Christian will venture away from home to face off against Hills Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Young Americans Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Hills Academy likes a good challenge. As for Covington Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Providence Classical Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
