Softball Recap: Saugerties Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Saugerties barely beat Our Lady of Lourdes the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Sawyers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 12-0 shutout on Monday. The Sawyers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Grace Madelone, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Malgieri, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Saugerties was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive games.

Saugerties' victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Our Lady of Lourdes, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Saugerties is set to face off against their familiar foe Wallkill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Sawyers 4, the Panthers 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Our Lady of Lourdes will take on rival New Paltz at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
