Basketball Recap: West Iredell Drops Season-High Score on West Wilkes

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Iredell). They strolled past the West Wilkes Blackhawks with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 74-57. That's more bragging rights for the Warriors, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

West Iredell was led to victory by Austin Bailey and Phil Maxey. Bailey went 6-for-12 en route to 17 points, while Maxey shot 45% from the field on his way to 16 points and four steals. Bailey's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Holden Hinson was another key player, putting up 11 points.

West Iredell was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The victory got West Iredell back to even at 2-2. As for West Wilkes, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

West Iredell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-64 defeat against Wilkes Central on the 5th. As for West Wilkes, they will square off against North Iredell at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blackhawks will need to watch out since the Raiders have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
