Derry hasn't had much luck against Greensburg Salem recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Golden Lions at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Derry is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Highlands with a sharp 18-2 win on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Meanwhile, Greensburg Salem got the win against Valley on Tuesday by a conclusive 19-1. The Golden Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
Sammie Reusser made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Reusser was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Greensburg Salem got a massive performance out of Hannah Olbeter, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Olbeter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cate Waugaman, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Greensburg Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .562. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Greensburg Salem pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Derry, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Derry came out on top in a nail-biter against Greensburg Salem in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
