The Gilroy Mustangs will challenge the Oak Grove Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gilroy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Friday just wasn't the day for Gilroy's offense. They came up short against Willow Glen on Friday, falling 14-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oak Grove). They blew past MacDonald 11-1 on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

The team relied heavily on Jacob Lubben, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jose Alavarez was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Oak Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Oak Grove has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Gilroy, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-6.

Gilroy beat Oak Grove 14-9 in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
