Softball Recap: Freedom Patriots vs. Gateway Panthers
Freedom was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gateway Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-9 back in March.

Allison Smith was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Evanna Hance was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and one double.
Freedom's loss dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Gateway, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Freedom does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gateway, they will challenge Cocoa Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Minutemen have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
