Preview: Alamo Navajo Cougars vs. Hondo Valley Eagles
The Alamo Navajo Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hondo Valley Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Alamo Navajo will be strutting in after a victory while Hondo Valley will be coming in after a loss.
In what's become a running theme this season, Alamo Navajo gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They really took it to Corona/Vaughn for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-28 win at home. With Alamo Navajo ahead 50-14 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Alamo Navajo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Scotty Guerro, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Guerro is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games he's played. Jacob Apache was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Hondo Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 43-37 to Carrizozo. Hondo Valley has struggled against Carrizozo recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Alamo Navajo's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Hondo Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Alamo Navajo against Hondo Valley when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 83-49 win. Does Alamo Navajo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hondo Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
