Basketball Recap: Summit Piles Up the Points Against Steamboat Springs

There's no place like home for Summit, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They breezed by the Steamboat Springs Sailors to the tune of 56-26 on Tuesday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Sailors are ranked 273rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Summit's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Eytel, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 11 points along with six assists and five boards. That's the most points Eytel has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was River Close, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Summit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Steamboat Springs lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Hailey Bender, who went 5 of 7 en route to 11 points and six boards. Caroline Erps also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Summit now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Steamboat Springs, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summit has already played their next matchup (against Salida), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Steamboat Springs will welcome Rifle at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Steamboat Springs is facing Rifle at the right time seeing as Rifle is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
