The Mercyhurst Prep Lakers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They fell 55-48 to Girard. Mercyhurst Prep has struggled against Girard recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Mercyhurst Prep still got an impressive performance from Maddox Brzuz, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Derek Bly, who scored nine points.
Mercyhurst Prep has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Girard, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercyhurst Prep will challenge Erie First Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Erie First Christian Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Girard, they will head out on the road to face off against Fairview at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fairview will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 454th, while Girard is ranked 55th).
