Basketball Recap: Ayersville Pilots vs. Antwerp Archers

The Ayersville Pilots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Antwerp by a score of 46-43. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ayersville in their matchups with the Archers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Antwerp got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Landon Brewer out in front who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Brewer is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zaine McMichael, who scored ten points.

Ayersville has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Antwerp, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ayersville will take on the Blackbirds at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Pettisville and the Pilots are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Antwerp, they will be playing at home against the Locomotives at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Montpelier will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 660th, while the Archers are ranked 176th).
