Football Recap: Perth Amboy Panthers vs. Colonia Patriots

Perth Amboy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 27-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colonia Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 229th, while the Patriots are ranked 91st).

Loss or not, Perth Amboy got some senior leadership from Laivon Balthazar and Brandon Bradsher. Balthazar rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, while Bradsher picked up 165 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Balthazar's longest rush was for an impressive 58 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Perth Amboy wouldn't let Colonia keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. Balthazar was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2023.

Colonia found their leader in underclassman Kyle Bell, who rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and also picked up 95 receiving yards and a touchdown. Those 143 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Bell. Dylan Chiera was another key player, throwing for 211 yards and three touchdowns.

Perth Amboy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Colonia, their record is now 4-1.

Perth Amboy will welcome Woodbridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodbridge will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Perth Amboy surely won't give up without a fight. As for Colonia, they will venture away from home to challenge Edison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 840 yards in their previous games.
